Nineteen Minutes By: Jodi Picoult

The book Nineteen Minutes is both a very moving and powerful story. The story line is shown from different people's veiw instead if just one person just narrorating the whole story. It touches base on topics that teens and adults maybe younger kids are dealing with.
The story is about a school shooting in Sterling NH by a student named Peter Houghton. His former best friend from second grade, Josie Cormier, is very depressed about the whole act. She is in disbelief that anything this violent could happen in her town, their town.
Peter was bullied through grade school and as the bullying adds up his tolerance for it lowers. He gives up and doesnt think he has anywhere to turn and no one cares so, to test people he does the unthinkable.
Nineteen Minutes is a beautifully written peice that will make you cry, laugh and wonder. I reccommend this book to people who enjoy realistic fiction and suspencful storylines. Anyone who likes a good plot and a couple twists in a story should read this book! However i think this book is mainly for 7th graders and up possibly 6th due to some of the material and vocabulary in the book.

The Kite Runner By: Khaled Hosseini

The Kite Runner is by far one of the best books I've ever read. It is so strongly written to the point where you acually feel like you're there. You are in the story the author is trying to convey to you. The Kite Runner opened my eyes and made me realize that I think if i have a fight with a friend its the end of the world while children about 5 years old are being abused. The author published material of events i had never heard of until I read the book. I never knew of the sexual and physical abuse many young children recived. I didnt know of the laws against woman and the laws of marrage.

The Kite Runner is about a boy who's father owns Hazaras which are servants. Amir, who is telling the story, is best friends almost brothers with one of the younger Hazaras, Hassan. The story goes into detail about the war in Kabul and other places with the Taliban. Khaled Hosseini wrote this fictional book so realisticly and so touching that you would think it was a true story.
The story includes parts on the laws under the Tailban and how hard they made life for so many people.

Throughout the book Amir states obstacles he went through to do so many simple things we Americans take for granted.

I reccommend this books to anyone 8th grade or higher due to how graphic and disturbing some parts of the books are. Any reader who likes a good read will leave you happy you read it should read The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini.

I'd Tell You I Loved You But Then I'd Have To Kill You By: Ally Carter

laughed out loud when i read the book "I'd Tell You I Loved You But Then I'd Have To Kill You." Its just one of those books that any teenage girl can relate to so easily.
The book is about a teenage girl named Cami. She goes to a school that seems normal on the outside but on the inside, the girls are spies in training. They learn all the things a spy would need to know to be successful.

You'd think the school has prepared her for everything since her mother is the head mistress but theres just one thing. What happens when Cami falls for a regular boy like a regular girl would?
The story tells you about what Cami goes through to get the guy of her dreams while keeping her undercover status as a famous spy's daughter.

I recommend this book to any 6th graders through 9 graders that like action and suspense fill plots. I think anyone who reads any of the Camp Confidential or Clique books would enjoy it.

My Forbbiden Face By: Latifa

While going through my aunts collection of books the title "My Forbidden Face" caught my eye. I picked it up and started reading it. 10 pages in to the book i knew i was going to finish it.
"My Forbidden Face" is a true story about a girl whose family lives under the rule of the Taliban. The girl's name is now Latifa and throughout the story she explains the horrors she endured living in Kabul.

She tells the reader about the ridiculous laws the Taliban forced on people especially woman. The law that probably effected Latifa the most was the law that if a woman was to go outside she had to cover herseld up. Hense the title, My Forbidden Face.
Latifa had to deal with these rules for over 4 years.

I think her story is enpowering for anyone but expecially young women. She showed her struggles but she got through them and shared the with the world.

I believe anyone who enjoyed the Kite Runner will like this story. I think 8th grade and up is a good age for this read along with anyone who enjoys historical and non fiction books.

Spells and Sleeping Bags By: Sarah Mlynowski

I really enjoyed reading Spells and Sleeping Bags. This book covers everything from spell books to swimming lessons.

This story is about a girl named Rachel who just got her powers. Her, her sister and her mother are witches and shes been anxiously awaiting her powers to come in.

Rachel and her sister Miri go to a summer camp all summer long. While there Rachel manages to get hit in the face with a soccer ball, get attacked by a swarm of bees and get a low swimming level at the waterfront.

To Rachel it seems like this summer isnt going to go so well but at the camp she also gets her first kiss, goes on a canoeing trip and finds out she has a cousin in her very cabin!

Through out the story Rachel touches up her magic while trying to make Raf fall in love with her and has one of her best and busiest summers ever.

I think that anyone who enjoyed the Camp Confidential books would enjoy Spells and Sleeping Bags.
