Life of Pi By: Yann Martel

Life of Pi is an allegorical story about young people believing in what they can do and what is possible. The story starts of with Piscine Molitor Patel growing up with an interest in zoology, since his dad owns a zoo. After finally fitting into his community, Piscine's family says that they have to move to Canada. While traveling on a ship to Canada, the ship sinks, leaving Pi as the only human survivor, however he is accompanied by a hyena, an orangutan, a zebra, and a 450 pound bengal tiger. The rest of the story is how Pi survives. At the end there is a different twist to the story. I would recommend this 7-12 graders. This book is similar to hatchet, but it has a larger metaphorical meaning.
