Girls in Pants: The Third Summer of the Sisterhood By: Ann brashares

This is a fun summer book, involving four girls who spend their last summer together before going off to college. Even though the girls go their different direction throughout the summer, they have the special pair of pants to keep them united. Each girl has a different story to tell, that shows how they deal with their challenges.

This was a fantastic book, that was full of challenges, emotions, and adventure that come with life, but there was always their friendship that the girls knew they could depend on.

Lena is working at a restaurant and going to art class. Tibby is spending her summer worrying about her sister and thinking about Brian (the guy). Bridget is going to soccer camp where she works with Eric. Through the summer the pants keep them together.

"The City of Ember:The First Book of Ember" by Jeanne DuPrau

The dark, lightbulb lit city of Ember is running out of supplies, and Lina and Doon know it. But no one will beleive the two teens when the try to tell people the truth about Ember. The two friends must try to get everyone out of Ember before people die of starvation and utter and eternal darkness.
Over all, I thought this story was well-thought out and well written. It showed you that you should never give up on anyone or anything! Also, it keeps you in suspense the whole time!
Bad habits or ideas-the kids do a few things withought talking to their gaurdians first

" The Golden Compass" by Philip Pulman

Although Lyra is only ten years old, she lives at Jordan College in Oxford University. Before Lyra knows it, she and her daemon,Pan, are swept up into a mystery of the GOB and why they are stealing little children. Also, Uncle Asriel talks about a strang thing called "Dust." On a journey to give her father the "golden compass" Lyra uncovers many secrets of the GOB, Dust, other worlds, and her hidden past.
Overall, I would not recomment this book because of the whole plot with daemons. I personally have reason to beleive that the author beleived in demonic things.
Use of language - Lyra uses the Lord's name in vain quite often
Violence - lots of bloodshed, battles and pain
Religion - There are daemons who are spirit friends to all humans - this is a demonic cult many beleive in. There are also passages taken out of the Bible from Genesis that were twisted and revised to fit this cult. Lord Asriel Beleive he himself can remove sin from the earth.

Sweet 16 by Kate Brian

Teagan Phillips has been planning her super sweet 16 for months. She
wants everything to be perfect, and with the help of her best friend and
her perfect boyfriend, the part is flawless. Except for the fact that
Teagan ruins her expensive, custom made dress, gets her old best
friend's aunt fired, and that she falls down a flight of stairs and becomes
unconscious. In her dream, Teagan's older self takes her back into time
and shows her mother (who died of cancer), Emily, her old best friend,
and how mean she was to her father. Her future self also takes Teagan
into the future, where Emily's aunt died because of over use of drugs.
Seeing these, Teagan realizes that she has to change her ways, and when
she becomes conscious again, she does. She tells off her best friend and
boyfriend (who have been sneaking behind her back for months), and
saves her relationship with her father.
To me, this book was an excellent read- funny at some points, sad at
others. I would recommend this book for girls in grades 7-10. If you

The story starts with an introduction to " This Lullaby", a song Remy's

tough-as-a-nail" girl who have mastered the science of breaking up.
Every boy she's dated, she will break up with them before things got too
complicated. Like mother like daughter, Remy's mom is currently on her
fifth husband. Enter Dexter, a boy who loves a great challenge, and
Remy is the perfect challenge for him. The once in control, perfect Remy
found herself losing the upper-hand as Dexter rolled into her life.
"This Lullaby" is the kind of book that keeps you up all night reading, or
wondering about what's going to happen next. The book does not only
focus on the normal teenage problems like leaving home for college, but it
goes way deeper than that. It talks about how to have faith and not
carefully plan everything out like Remy did in all of her relationships
but one-the one between her and Dexter. It's a fantastic book for anyone

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

Charlie isn't quite your average highschooler. He isn't like the other kids. He watches. He watches the other people. Its kind of like a hobby. He doesn't have really any friends because he is shy. He is overanalyizing and trying to understand the world. But then one day he makes two friends, Patrick and Sam. And they introduce him into their world of friends. Charlie feels they are the best group of people in the world. And through them he learns more about the world. Friends, drugs, sex, etc. But he also learns more about himself. He must find that he has to do what he wants. Doing things for other people won't always make him ready. And when one he loves most is finally ready, he must decide if he is really ready too.
This book was actually kind of scary, but good. You really got to see more of the world through Charlie's eyes. It kinda brought me out of my bubble. What really frustrates me is that some schools have junior high kids reading this book. I really think that it was more intended for high school level of understanding. Overall it was a good book. If you need to see the world of highschool, then this is the book to read.

A Series Of Unfortunate Events The Slippery Slope By: Lemony Snicket

This book is about the Baudelaire family. Ever since a fire burnt down the Baudelaire’s home, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire have been orphans. Or so they believe. Sunny gets taken away from Count Olaf and his crew (the bad guys). Violet and Klaus have to go searching for her. All the bad guys want to do is steel their family’s fortune somehow. While Violet and Klaus are searching for her they have to go through the Mortmain Mountains. They face the icy cold winds and the bugs there. They also go through many obstacles on their way to finding Count Olaf and Sunny.
My favorite part of the book was when Sunny had to cook breakfast for the crew. I liked it because she made the breakfast perfect and then Count Olaf threw it all on the ground. I liked it though I kind of felt bad for Sunny. The worst part was that she had to make the breakfast all over again.

Mimi has met the real Juliet and Romeo, and doesn't want them to suffer their determinded suicidal approach of their destiny. Will Mimi save Juliet and Romeo out of their unhappiness? Also, will Mimi and Troy be able to return home to Manhattan?

Nick Carraway, the narrator, moves to West Egg. His house is bordering Jay Gatsby's abode and is across the bay from his cousin Daisy and her husband Tom. Nick never truly fits into the superficial, alcohol, and sex crazed society of the twenties, and neither does Gatsby who is obsessed with Daisy. Daisy has changed since the last time Gatsby has seen her, before she was married. While the only real loves of Tom and Daisy are their possessions and money, Gatsby never stops holding onto his illusion of his perfect Daisy. He holds parties every week hoping that Daisy will attend just one. When Gatsby and Daisy's affair becomes known to Tom, Daisy in her unstable emotional mess, hits Tom's lover Myrtle Wilson while she is driving with Gatsby. Gatsby is then shot by Mr. Wilson, who hears from Tom that Gatsby killed Myrtle, goes crazy and later commits suicide after he loses his wife. In a way, it is almost good that Gatsby is shot waiting for Daisy so that his illusion of her is never broken. My favorite part was when Nick returns to find Daisy and Gatsby getting along well. So Yesterday by Scott Westerfeld

I’ve been on a Scott Westerfield kick lately. I read Peeps during my search for non-Twilight vampire books, and I keep trying to read things by other authors and then . . . deciding not to. My favorite so far is So Yesterday, which is a critique of the marketing industry disguised as an action story with a side helping of romance. (I’m a sucker for deep things disguised as fun things.) In So Yesterday, the next cool thing starts with an Innovator, someone who comes up with some cool new quirk, like a new way to lace your shoes. A cool hunter then spots it, passes up to his boss, and it travels up the chain until you read about it on the internet, see T.V. commercials about it, and buy it at the mall. But some people are getting sick of this process and the way it turns every new idea in to a mass-marketed, money-making scheme. When some of these people kidnap his boss, Hunter has to track her down with his Innovator friend Jen. Along the way, he begins to question the idea of “cool” and the process that generates it. In typical Westerfield fashion, the story is fast-paced with lots of action and creative problem-solving. I love the way he sneaks in cool science facts, and how seamlessly they fit into the story. Plus, he gets bonus points for featuring the public library’s reference desk in the book! If you read So Yesterday and love it, try Peeps next.

While traveling on a ship to Canada, the ship sinks, leaving Pi as the only human survivor, however he is accompanied by a hyena, an orangutan, a zebra, and a 450 pound bengal tiger. The rest of the story is how Pi survives. At the end there is a different twist to the story. I would recommend this 7-12 graders. This book is similar to hatchet, but it has a larger metaphorical meaning.

The Hero By: Ron Woods

Jamie and Jerry had planned to do a raft project for their summer holidays to kill time from being lazy. It all went well until Jamie's father asked them to include Dennis Leeper, a clumsy-like yet curious son of a landlord. Both boys never really like him, because, Dennis is always a coward and has a lot of fears, such as heights. Unfortunately, on one plain summer day, when Jamie and Jerry asked Dennis to hold the rope that connects the raft to the docks, Dennis accidentally lets go, immediately swerving the raft loose from its normal route. As the 3 boys were swept downstream without any paddles or witnesses, they are led towards to the dams, the steep waterfalls, and three separate destinies, each with a surprising fate.

What I liked about this book was that it's through Jamie's perspective and views through this whole book and the author describes Jamie's experience with the accident, and the whole project very well and perfect enough for everyone to understand him. What I disliked was Dennis for the first half of the book because he's always a coward and he keeps on visiting Jamie and Jerry, which sounds annoying to me. Plus, I can add Dennis's father's (the landlord) attitude towards Jamie, Jerry, and Jamie's family.

However, this book might be recommended to readers who liked adventures with unexpected fates/conclusions, and a sense of how the 2 boys interact with others in this book. Plus, it'll go well with readers in grades 3-6 for advanced reading.

The Mediator 3: Reunion By: Meg Cabot

Susannah Simon may seem like a normal 16-year-old teenager, but the only difference is that she can see and talk to dead people. If this isn't freaky enough, she is a mediator, who helps dead people fix their mistakes and let them go to wherever they're supposed to go. With her friend, Gina, coming over, Suze's got a lot of plans in her head. But, unfortunately, she can't do much because "they" show up. "They" are the ghosts of the RLS Angels, seeking revenge towards Michael Meducci for killing them in a car accident. Michael supposedly thinks that Suze likes him, but what she's really after is the truth. How do the Angels know that Michael was the one who killed them? Before Suze gathers up any evidence, she is always hanging out with Michael protecting him because you never know what might happen when four raging spirits are around. Although, when she hears the truth of the ghosts' mouths, she stops protecting him. Will she be able to find a way of charging Michael guilty without anyone getting hurt??

I liked it when Suze thinks that Jesse, the hot ghost roaming around Suze's bedroom she likes, is going to finally kiss her, but he just whispers something in her ear. It was very romantic, but surprising as well.

People who like reading about ghosts, mediators, and solving crimes would like this book.

While she is stuck in bed, she notices a boy across the street, and they communicate by writing words on posterboard. When Maddison gets back in school, she starts hanging out with that boy, and she tells her friends all about it. Readers in grades 6 or 7 would like this book, because it is at their reading level.
