The Pride. When I think of pride, I think of gay pride, but maybe that's because I'm gay. I'm also a big baseball fan, but I have to admit, I've never been to a Pride game even though I live a stone's throw from the left field entrance to Holman Stadium. And according to yesterday's Nashua Telegraph article, "Future of Pride Hangs in Balance", (available in the library's Newsbank database,) this weekend may be the last chance I have to take in a Nashua Pride baseball game. So you can count on finding me at at least one of the games in the final regular-season homestand this weekend.
As a Boston Red Sox fan, the Nashua Pride have always intrigued me. Their manager is the same legendary third baseman of my childhood years, Butch Hobson. And now, "El Guapo" otherwise known as Rich Garces, has joined the team. Rich was a Red Sox fan favorite from 1999-2002 who disappeared far too quickly for most Fenway faithful. According to baseballreference.com, Rich had a career record of 23-10 with an E.R.A. of 3.74. Not bad for pitcher with ten years of pro ball experience. Unfortunately, he never experienced the World Series with the Red Sox, but he did pitch in the team's 1999 postseason series with the Cleveland Indians and the New York Yankees. Personally, I can't wait to see El Guapo on the mound for the Pride.
So if you have any desire to attend a Nashua Pride game, this weekend is the time to do it. It may be your last chance!
